Selective Texturing

Aesthetic Benefits

In addition, selective texturing is a design option designers can be used as an aesthetic feature as well as a functional purpose on overlays and panels.

A proven effective technique is to use a combination of the velvet low-reflectivity look on the majority of a part and a high-gloss wet look on borders, logos or areas the designer wants to draw the user's eye to.

Specifications

Note: All measurements in inches.

• Material – Either polyester or polycarbonate can be selectively textured.
• Tolerance – Selective texture can be applied to the first surface of a panel or overlay with a plus or minus .015 tolerance.
• Variation – There should be no discernible variation in the texture when viewed at 18 inches.

See the illustration.

Inspection Procedure

The PPS inspector will:

   1. Use ANSI/ASTM D3359-78 as described in "Custom Printing - Inspection Procedure - Ink Adhesion Test."

   2. View parts at 18 inches from the eye to the surface of the part.

   3. Use a line of sight that is "head on" and perpendicular to the part's surface, and then rotated 30 degrees in both directions from perpendicular.

   4. Ensure that the texture visually matches the texture chip in both texture and gloss.

See illustration above.
